With this Giant Memory Game, play as a family around the works of Jules Verne! Its cards will take you on a journey to discover distant and exotic lands aboard fantastic machines that will propel you under the seas or through the air... Thanks to this game, adults can share with children the extraordinary voyages of Jules Verne. At the end of the 19th century, a time when cars, submarines, and airplanes were still dreams of poets, Jules Verne had already imagined fabulous machines, and his characters lived incredible adventures… So, are you ready to play with Jules Verne?
The large cards (11 x 11 cm) allow you to fill as much space as you want; you can play on the table, but also on the floor or in the garden! You then have to move around to flip the cards over... To play with Jules Verne, it's very simple: the 40 cards are placed face down. Each player takes turns flipping over two cards of their choice for a few seconds, just long enough to see the image. The goal is to find matching pairs of cards by remembering their locations.
In the Giant Jules Verne Memo, each of the cards represents one of Jules Verne's stories. The artist who created the illustrations, Aurélia Jourist, has been a fan of the author since childhood. In her studio, you can even find old editions of his books!
Aurélia Jourist conducted a true archaeological excavation to get as close as possible to the author's world. The artist reread Jules Verne's travels, and each of her drawings corresponds to a passage from the stories. To give the impression of diving into an old adventure book, she used warm colors and applied a slightly aged filter to the drawings.
Aurélia Jourist paid special attention to the machines. Indeed, submarines and other flying devices are described in great detail by Jules Verne. Yet, most of their portrayals in films or cartoons are far from the extraordinary mechanisms described by the author! Aurélia Jourist therefore contacted an enthusiast: Jean-Marc Deschamps. He is the author of a book dedicated to Jules Verne's machines, published in 2005: 140 years of extraordinary inventionsIn this book, Jean-Marc Deschamps presents the models he created by closely imitating the machines imagined by Jules Verne. It was these models that inspired Aurélia Jourist to create her drawings!
Here are some game cards, along with the titles of the corresponding books; can you guess which books the illustrations come from? Now it's your turn to play with Jules Verne!
